This poster was seen throughout Bern and was seen mostly as a "standee". This photo was taken outside of the Communication Museum.
This poster is heavily informed by the international style with its sans serif type, flush left alignment, and the use of the grid. It is also influenced slightly by the postmodern posters. The bottom half of the poster is very much international style influence but once you get to the top of the red text you see the artist has layered his type. This would not have happened if it were wholly international.
The concept for this poster is to grab your attention with its vivid colors and playful typography. I'm sure the actual text grabs your attention and makes you question what the poster is for, but since I can't speak or read German I can't be certain.
For imagery like this I would actually use Adobe Illustrator. I can't be sure about what the artist actually used but I would guess Illustrator or some design or type program.
The 55-5-5 rule applies to this poster because from 55 feet away the bold vivid colors, complementary color scheme, and large typography attract your attention. The text and colors bring you in closer where you are able to read the event information. When you get just a bit closer you will see the vertical text on the bottom right of the poster as well as the sponsor/endorsor logos. So the rule applies but there isn't much there to pull you in to 5 inches. Its a very straight forward poster. Giving you the information and not much else.
The colors are what attracted me to the poster in the beginning but after looking at it a bit longer I began to appreciate its typography and layout. I believe it is a successful poster in attracting peoples' attention with its colors. Its a good example of how communication works, which is good because its advertising the Communication Museum. Its a well designed poster overall.
