Festival de la Terre

This poster was found in Lausanne on a post out in the open by the side of the street and the title is set at eye level. It is in an area for "passer-by"s verses an area where people would sit and wait. It is interesting to think what might have influenced this poster. There are a lot of bright colors and swirls and flowery images. All the imagery seems like a very contemporary style and possibly based on common fads. This along with the bright colors gives in a very current hip feel that might attract younger crowds. It also reflects the idea of being fresh and vibrant, which is advertised in the poster as an event to remember to keep the earth also fresh and vibrant. As far as past work influencing this poster I get a sense of the japanese patters with flowers and such. I also get a strong sense of art nouveau with the swirls and organic feel. The poster is meant to create interest in this event to promote keeping the earth green. As I said, I think they wanted to use bright colors and organic images to promote this feeling. 55-5-5 rule is well used here. The bright colors attract you from far away, but you must approach the poster to read the small informational text and closer still to see the small details. Im attracted to this poster for his hip style and bright colors. Ive always like art nouveau as well, which I sense in this poster. I like organic shapes. I think the poster is successful providing they are trying to focus on a younger age group.
