Opera

I found this poster on a poster strandee as you walk from the train station to the mall in Vevey. it was at eye level. This poster would fall into the category of early swiss posters which comes from an art nouveau french influence. This is because it has a wallpaper background and a japanese style woodcut illustration called Japanese Ukyio-e. it also has influence from early swiss travel poster because of it's rich colors. The purpose of this poster is to invite people to attend the opera that will take place in Lausanne in september. there are two other similar posters with the same style and from the same advertiser but different illustrations and different colors. This series of posters is meant to get the word out that the opera is coming up and i imagine that more info will be given later on. The 55-5-5 rule works. Bright wallpaper background attracts the eye from far off, the type is legible and the woodcut is understandable from 5 feet and then from 5 inches you can see the detailed background and the smaller typography. This poster is successful because it drew me in with it's intense colors. i love the concept that the illustration portrays. They're dressed as if they are going to the opera but their form of transportation keeps you wondering and interested in the theme of the opera.
