Carhardt DJ Poster

This poster is located in the main square in the middle of Romont next to the marketplace. It was taped to a manmade box along with other local announcements for events ranging from anything sport related to music and dance. The bright complementary colors immediately drew my gaze as it was sitting at eye level. This poster was influenced primarily by the post-modern style. This is seen by the random lines created by dots and the abstracted art piece. However, there is a small influence of the international style seen in the slight grid system and sans serif typefaces. The concept of this poster is to promote a dance club with performing DJs. This is successfully accomplished with use of circular motions and diagonal lines creating the illusion of motion and vibration much like a loud musical note. The image on this poster appears to have been created using illustrator or a like program. The 55/5/5 rule works well with this piece. From a distance i was immediately attracted to it because of the sharp contrast and the bright colors. At 5 feet I admired the artwork on the poster and my eye comfortably was moved around the piece. At 5 inches I could read the dj names and see the details of the city, cars, and houses on the image. I believe this poster is successful because it is simple, easy to understand, and the imagery/type relationship is strong.
