Faces

This poster was located on the corner in a standee near the fountain in the museum district in Bern. This poster is informed by the early swiss travel posters because of its simplicity and rich colors. But it is more highly influenced by the postmodern poster. It's a very playful, conceptual poster. Its layered and there appears to be no rules used in its creation. A sans serif font is used but it is flush right ragged left. Thus breaking rules (or creating its own.) This poster concept is to cause you to see one thing but as you delve deeper see another. Thus sparking interest. Its function is to cause you to desire to know what the Museum of Natural History is all about. I believe the imagery to be computer generated just because it appears to me that the oval is too perfect in its shape. The lines are too clean cut. I believe the 55-5-5 rule applies here best of all the poster I've chosen. From 55 feet away you are attracted by its colors and its simplicity. You see a face, a cute dog's face with floppy ears. As you come to 5 feet to examine it closer you see the information it is advertising but you also notice the face is made up of a colored oval and a moth. At five inches away you are able to see the detail put into each piece of the moth, the smaller type at the bottom, and a small domino in the upper right corner or the poster. I was attracted to this poster because of its colors, simplicity, and its playfulness. I enjoy being able to look and see new things each time. I enjoy having to take a second look or taking my time on the first one to notice all of the details an artist has put into a design. This poster has all of those qualities. This poster is successful because of its playfulness. You want to see more of this so you are drawn into the museum. Which is what it is intended to do. Thus...successful.
