Gink-go

This poster was located on a rural street in Vevey. I found this poster as I was wondering around the town on a Sunday. I was attracted to the poster because of the imagery. This poster has a little bit of International Style, Photomontage and Postmodern influence. The International Style is seen in the type. The Helvetica type used for the hours of operation is placed in a grid that is flushed left and ragged right. This is generally typical of the International Style, however, some of the rules have been broken and the title of the poster is placed in a different direction than all the other type on the poster. The imagery in the poster could be influenced by both Photomontage and Postmodern style because of the combination of the layered photos with illustrations. I believe that the concept behind this poster is to let young people know where they can go for social events and activities. One weak point in this poster is white vector lines. It looks as if the white lines were just placed on top of the image without having much to do with the design as a whole. One positive part of the design is the 55/5/5 rule. I think this rule applies in the poster because as a whole, it is very pleasing to look at. I think that the bright title immediately attracts the attention of the viewer along with the complimentary colors. From five feet away the viewer is able to view the collage of images in the background. From 5 inches away the small type of hours of operation can be read and the viewer can get a closer look at the details in the images. I was attracted to this poster because of the imagery. It was unique enough that it made me wanting to know more. Overall, I feel this poster was successful in advertising for the social activities and events.
